Refrain from Marijuana

Drug addiction, by definition, is the urge to abuse a substance despite the harm it causes in a person’s life. Addiction is remotely connected to how many people use the drug or what percentage of them become addicted.

The grave side is that the consequences of such an addiction are so destructive that one could easily be deterred. Not to be, in case of addiction.

Drug Addicts hanker after the substance compulsively, to the extent that they develop a dependence on it. What it does to self and the family is apparently not the addict’s concern.

Marijuana is one such substance with addictive potential. On the positive side, Marijuana has proved to be effective in a number of medical applications, including treating chronic pain and AIDS wasting. And then there is the flip side!

Data indicates that of all the people who seek treatment for drug and alcohol abuse in the US, close to 15 percent is inflicted with marijuana abuse.

Studies have established that the substance abuse has a direct affect on one’s episodic3 memory.

Difficulty in thinking and problem solving, among other issues, are some of the adverse affects of Marijuana addiction.

Empirical evidence has also established a link between marijuana use in high school and consequently lower grades and higher drop-out rates.

Ingestion of alcohol is acceptable so long as one consumes safe and healthy amounts of the substance. Problem arises when one becomes a binge drinker. This is when alcohol can have repercussions that can be termed as nasty, to say the least.

Therefore, at the outset, it is imperative to understand weather ones drinking patterns are safe or risky and harmful.

If the results of this assessment point to the latter, it is time to take immediate corrective action.

There is help available by way of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), 12th Step Committee.

The one simple requisite to get the best out of this simple program is to be honest to one. Success stories abound wherein addicts have helped themselves out of the quagmire simply by being fearless and thorough throughout the AA program.

AA recognizes that the enemy, alcohol, is cunning, inexplicable as well as powerful. Therefore to overpower it, the program advises to turn to God, the only One who has all the power. Ask for His protection and care with complete abandon and do not adopt any half measures in the AA principles. Success is guaranteed!

Drug Free 2010 – A mere Dream

There is no fault in dray dreaming. People still believes that 2010 can become a drug free world. We beg to defer, we feel drug free 2010 is a mere dream.

The fact of life remains that drug with its far reaching tentacles has been able to cast a deep rooted spell on various segments of the society, whereby sudden drug sobriety seems to be difficult.

Its unfortunate that drug addiction comes up suddenly, but sobriety is a long term process whereby a lot of rehab and self control become necessary. Drug addicts often fail to show guts to exhibit resilience to the dreaded drugs in spite of the continuous demands from the family and society as their mind and body become tuned to drugs.

We never want to state that rehab from drug addiction or even permanent sobriety is not impossible.

We want to mention that leaving drug or sobriety is a time taking and pain staking process.

It is indeed true that people with stronger mind frame can make the rehabilitation process faster, but such strong minded people hardly become victim of drugs.

The glitters and glimpses of drugs and alcohol allures mainly the weak minded people, who can hardly impose any self control or self restriction.

Perhaps the fundamental philosophy lies with the responsibilities of the society and the family members. People can hardly leave alone and they become highly eager to make friends.

It is the responsibility of the family members and society to eradicate the loneliness from any individual irrespective of his caste, creed, class and sex.

If we can look slightly beyond our stipulated world, the world can throw challenges to the drug peddler.
